All Details

A versatile and fast-growing tropical vine, celebrated for its arrow-shaped leaves that change form as the plant matures. It is a popular, easy-care houseplant known for its attractive foliage, which comes in a variety of colors and patterns, from solid green to variegated pink, white, and cream.

I am a climbing or trailing evergreen perennial, often starting as a bushy plant and developing a vining habit as I mature.

My most distinctive feature is my juvenile leaves, which are simple, arrowhead-shaped. As I climb and mature, my adult leaves become larger, deeply lobed, and may even develop multiple leaflets, resembling a goosefoot.

I come in many cultivars with stunning foliage: some are solid green, while others are variegated with splashes of white, cream, pink, or bronze.

I produce aerial roots at the nodes, which help me climb supports like moss poles.

I am native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America.

I prefer consistently moist soil but not soggy. Water me when the top inch of soil feels dry.

I am sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to yellow leaves and root rot. Ensure good drainage.

I can tolerate occasional underwatering (I may wilt but recover quickly), but consistent dryness will stunt my growth.

I appreciate moderate to high humidity (above 50%) to prevent brown leaf edges, but I adapt to average home conditions.

I thrive in bright, indirect light. This encourages faster growth and more vibrant variegation in colored varieties.

I am very adaptable and can tolerate low light conditions, but my growth will slow, and the leaves may become smaller and less colorful. In very low light, variegated types may revert to green.

Direct sun will scorch my leaves, causing brown, crispy patches. An east or north-facing window is ideal.

I prefer warm, stable temperatures between 18°C and 27°C.

I am sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C, which can cause leaf drop and damage.

I am grown almost exclusively as a houseplant (USDA zones 10-12 if outdoors in shade).

I am perfect for hanging baskets (where I'll trail) or pots with a moss pole or trellis (where I'll climb and develop larger, mature leaves).

Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix.

Pinch back the growing tips regularly to encourage a bushier, fuller plant and prevent a leggy appearance.

I can be grown in water indefinitely as a hydroponic plant.

Feed me every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer.

Reduce feeding to once a month in fall and winter.

Over-fertilizing can cause salt buildup and leaf burn.

Scientific Name: Syngonium podophyllum

Common Names: Arrowhead Vine, Goosefoot Plant, Nephthytis, African Evergreen

Plant Family: Araceae

Plant Type: Evergreen climbing or trailing vine

Like many in the Araceae family, I contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If chewed or ingested by pets or humans, I can cause oral irritation, pain, swelling, drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Keep me out of reach.

I am a good air-purifying plant, effective at removing common indoor pollutants like formaldehyde, benzene, and toluene, according to some studies.

Fast-growing and provides quick, lush foliage.

Very easy to care for and propagate from stem cuttings.

Offers a wide variety of leaf shapes and colors to choose from.

Adapts well to both trailing and climbing habits.

Yellowing Leaves: Usually a sign of overwatering.

Brown Leaf Tips/Edges: Caused by low humidity, underwatering, or fluoride in tap water.

Leggy Growth with Small Leaves: Caused by insufficient light.

Loss of Variegation: New leaves turning mostly green is a sign of too little light (for variegated types).

Pests: Can be susceptible to aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs, especially in dry conditions.

I am a long-lived, fast-growing perennial vine. With minimal care, I can thrive indoors for many years. I grow continuously, and vines can become quite long. I rejuvenate very easily from cuttings, making my lifespan practically indefinite through propagation. To keep a plant looking full and youthful, it's common to prune back long vines and root the cuttings in the same pot.

Everyday: from 9:00AM to 7:00PM
